Day 8 – Camille Claudel

Camille Claudel

Born 8 December 1864 in Picardy, Northern France, Camille Claudel was a sculptor who worked closely with Rodin, becoming his muse and lover. Tragically, she was committed to a psychiatric hospital in 1913 and spent the last 30 years of her life incarcerated (despite numerous appeals to her family from doctors and visitors claiming she was sane). Pictured below is one of her better known works, La Valse.
